The profile season of the Russian Geographical Society in International Children's Center Artek in Crimea was over the 14th of October. About 350 schoolchildren took part in it – there are the winners of various competitions, Olympiads on geography, ecology, ethnography.
In 2015 Artek celebrates 90. For its anniversary, he had experienced a global reconstruction, so that children were having a rest in the updated camp.
The organizers prepared an exciting educational program named World of Geography for the participants of the profile season. 11 master-classes, ecological competitions, excursions, flash mobs, etc. Alpinists, scientists, geographers and other professionals were working with the children. The schoolchildren were taught to render first aid, split field camp, they learned about the history of shipbuilding, geology of Crimea. These children took master-class on dance geography and got to know the secrets of geographic photos` creating. And the main thing that they managed to put knowledge they had got there to use!
The geographical quest helped the participants of the profile season of the Russian Geographical Society dip into the World of Geography from their first day of staying in the camp. Sport orienteering, work with the devices, cards, and various puzzles and mysteries – all that united young researchers and acquainted them with the area of the most famous camp in the country. And during the season the children were able to make the old dream of Artek come true – to develop a new ecological trail!
«Modern geography is the orientation of a person in space: the natural, social, and economic as well. And the way a person feels himself in this space - so he goes through his life. Not all of those children will become geographers, of course. But there is no doubt that they will be able to orient in the society, in different occupations, in relationship with their peers», - a head of the program the World of the Geography, a board member of the Sevastopol branch of the Russian Geographical Society Irina Prygunova says.

During the expedition to Sevastopol the children were able to feel themselves the real geographers. The organizers of the season had worked out for them 13 routes untypical for the city. Artek children got field diaries, in which they were writing down their impressions, making notes and paintings, while visiting warships, lighthouses, command centers of the Great Patriotic War`s times, and much more. The best field diaries will be selected by the competent jury, and the winners will be awarded at the closing ceremony of the thematic shifts of Artek, which will be held the 15th of October, 2015.
The main aim of the profile seasons of the Russian Geographical Society – maintaining and enhancement of the intellectual potential of Russia, and dissemination of experience of the Youth Movement of the Society as well.
At the beginning of the year the project first time was carried out in the Federal Children`s Center Smena, Anapa. It was launched the 25th of February, and it was over the 16th of March. There more than 150 girls and boys aged 14-18 years from several regions of the country took part in that profile season of the Russian Geographical Society.
From the 26th of July till the 15th of August the profile season of the Russian Geographic Society was held in the Russian Children's Center "Ocean".
The profile season in Artek has been held with the support of Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation, the Russian Geographical Society and the Sevastopol city branch of the Russian Geographical Society.
