XVIII All-Russian School Olympiad in Geography Ended in Kazan

The final stage of the XVIII All-Russian School Olympiad in Geography has been completed in Kazan. The best in the competition were 16 winners and 79 prizewinners. The event was attended by 203 schoolchildren - young geographers, representing 57 constituent entities of the Russian Federation. Among the strongest, diplomas-awarded winners are schoolchildren from Moscow and St. Petersburg, Irkutsk, Moscow, Saratov and Chelyabinsk regions.

There were three rounds - theoretical, practical and test. The first in the individual competition on the basis of these rounds became the Moscow eleventh grader Andrei Yakovlev. He will take part at the International Geographical Olympiad together with three other winners of the All-Russian competition. The International Geographical Olympiad will be held in early August in Hong Kong. Russia will host the Baltic Regional Geographical Olympiad at the end of June, the venue of which will be Kaliningrad.

The Russian Geographical Society has allocated a grant to organize and conduct "BaltGeo" and will cover the progress of this competition for schoolchildren from six countries - Belarus, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Russia and Estonia.
