RGS Shifts in Federal Centers for Children
Annually, starting from 2015, the Russian Geographical Society holds a competition for participation in the special-oriented camps in the federal children's centers "Artek", "Orlyonok", "Smena" and "Okean".
Terms of receiving applications and shifts in 2019:
All-Russian Center for Children "Smena": Call for applications - from January 28 to March 20.The shift will take place from May 12 to May 25.
All-Russian Center for Children "Okean": Call for applications - from February 11 to April 8.The shift will take place from June 24 to July 14.
All-Russian Center for Children "Orlyonok": Call for applications from February 11 to April 1The shift will take place from May 30/31 to June 19/20.
International Center for Children "Artek":Call for applications - from April 17 to June 14. The shift will take place from August 30/31 to September 19/20.
Сhildren and young people interested in geography, participants of various projects and expeditions, winners of contests and olympiads in geography, ecology, ethnography, regional studies and other subjects are invited to participate in the contest.
The program of camps includes meetings with famous travelers, geographers, scientists, wildlife photographers and journalists. Young researchers participate in scientific and educational quests, observe the state of the environment, study the basics of tourism and local history.
In order to take part in the first stage of the competitive selection, it is necessary to prepare a portfolio. We draw attention to the fact that the timing of the competition and the camp shifts of the RGS depend on the choice of the children's center.
The purpose of special-oriented camps:
- promotion of knowledge about the Earth, opportunities and practical benefits of geography;
- encouragement and development of creative activity, interest in science;
- acquisition by children of tourist skills, including the ability to set up camp, make a fire, provide first aid;
- familiarity with the history and cultural values that unite the peoples of Russia.
In 2016, 800 boys and girls from different places of Russia participated in special-oriented camps.
In 2015, 540 children from 50 Russian regions visited Artek, Smena and Okean.
