The Council of Regions of the Russian Geographical Society was created in 2014 to ensure regional development and coordination of activities of regional and local branches of the RGS.

The Council of Regions is composed of the chairmen of the regional branches of the Society. Currently, the Council of Regions includes the heads of regional branches.

The Chairman of the Council of Regions is the First Vice-President of the Russian Geographical Society, President of the Russian Association of Polar Explorers, Special Envoy of the President of the Russian Federation for International Cooperation in the Arctic and Antarctic Arthur Nikolayevich Chilingarov.

Secretary of the Council of Regions is Chairwoman of the Nizhny Novgorod Regional Branch of the Society Svetlana Aleksandrovna Sotkina.
