Congratulations from the Pan American Institute for Geography and History

I am Cesar Rodriguez, Secretary General of the Pan American Institute for Geography and History (PAIGH).  The PAIGH is an international organization, created in 1928, linked to the Organization of American States (the OAS).  The PAIGH has 21 Member States and 5 Observer States.

I am recording this address from the PAIGH headquarters in Mexico City.

The Mission of the PAIGH is to encourage, coordinate and publicize knowledge in four areas:  Cartography, Geography, History and Geophysics.

I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Russian geographers on Geographer’s Day, and the Russian Geographical Society as well, on its 175th anniversary.

I would like to share my thoughts on what geography is:

  1. - Teaching geography is teaching to love the land where one is born.
  2. - When one loves and knows their country, one learns to take care of it.
  3. - Basically, and this is the most important thing, teaching geography instills the responsibility of protecting the environment in all people .

Once again, congratulations to all Russian geographers; congratulations to the Russian Geographical Society on its 175th anniversary.

From Mexico, we wish you health.
