For the fifth year in a row, the Murmansk Regional Branch of the Russian Geographical Society organized cleaning of coastal areas and educational games on the Sea Day. This year the event was also held as part of the All-Russian Campaign #Water_Of_Russia, part of the national project "Ecology".
The event was supported by the Ministry of Natural Resources, Ecology and Fisheries of the Murmansk region and the participants were provided with branded gloves and equipment.
This year, Murmansk residents and students from the village of Minkino were joined by children from the villages of Lovozero, Zelenoborsky and Vysoky, the cities of Kandalaksha, Apatity, Severomorsk, Polyarny, as well as from the branch of the Nakhimov School in Murmansk and the Murmansk Center for Assistance to Children Left without Parental Care "Rovesnik". 178 people from all around the Murmansk region took part in the cleaning, they collected almost 150 m3 of garbage.
The second part of the event, the educational and creative tasks on the coastal territory, is a new approach to cleaning. Having cleaned the site up, children use it for research and creative activities. The creation of local art zones has been the most exciting part for the children throughout these five years, they are always eager to clean the coastal zones and then create something unique there.
Among other tasks, the children studied the Red Book of the Murmansk region created by the Murmansk Regional Children's and Youth Library; created an emblem for the society "Japan in Murmansk", because the Sea Day is a public holiday in Japan; got acquainted with SUP-boards, compared the coastal maps of the past centuries to the modern ones.
The participants note that on the Sea Day, the weather is always sunny making the teams feel happy.
