Happy World Tourism Day!

World Tourism Day is celebrated in Russia and more than 150 other countries around the world on September 27. It was established by the General Assembly of the UNWTO (World Tourism Organization) in 1979 in the Spanish city of Torremolinos. Russia began to celebrate this holiday a couple of years later, in 1983. This day is dedicated to the promotion of responsible, sustainable and accessible tourism around the world, as well as raising awareness on its contribution to the economy of the world community and developing ties between the peoples of different countries.

Every year the World Tourism Organization chooses a new theme of the holiday. This year it's “Rethinking Tourism".

The potential of tourism is enormous, and we have a shared responsibility to make sure it is fully realized. On World Tourism Day 2022, UNWTO calls on everyone, from tourism workers to tourists themselves, as well as small businesses, large corporations and governments, to reflect and rethink what we do and how we do it.” said Zurab Pololikashvili, Secretary General of the World Tourism Organization.
