III International Scientific and Practical Conference "Security of Arctic frontiers: ecology, history, images of the future" to be held on October 27-28

On October 27-28, 2022, Murmansk State Technical University will host the III International Scientific and Practical Conference "Security of Arctic Frontiers: ecology, history, images of the future". The Murmansk Regional Branch of the Russian Geographical Society coordinates the event.  The Murmansk State Technical University, Murmansk Marine Biological Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences and Northern Character Production Center are the co-organizers of the conference. This conference was held for the first time in October 2020 in Murmansk and aroused great interest among Russian and foreign participants. The second conference was held last year in the Kola Science Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences in Apatity. The conference was attended by speakers from Russia, Norway and Finland, including representatives of the MMBI RAS, KSC RAS, MASU, Partisan Museum in Kiberg, Norwegian Pomor Academy, Norwegian research company “Akvaplan-niva”, Arctic University of Norway, a number of environmental organizations, etc.

The Murmansk Regional Branch of the Russian Geographical Society invites representatives of scientific, educational, public organizations, as well as cultural and art institutions from Russia, Norway and other Arctic countries to participate in the conference.

The conference is dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the Murmansk Regional Branch of the Russian Geographical Society celebrated this year. Throughout all these years, the Murmansk Regional Branch of the Russian Geographical Society has been engaged in active expeditionary, educational, research activities, making a great contribution to the development of history and ecology of the Murmansk region, popularization of geographical knowledge, preservation of the historical, natural and cultural heritage of Russia.

Among the speakers are representatives of the Murmansk Regional Branch of the Russian Geographical Society, MSTU, MASU, MMBI RAS, KSC RAS, Arctic Development AS, Norwegian Pomor Academy, etc.

One of the significant events of the conference supported by the Presidential Grant Foundation is the discussion "Russia and Norway in a changing world". Experts from the two countries will discuss the most pressing issues of today's information agenda.

The event will be held in a mixed mode of both offline and online participation. It will be broadcasted online and the recordings will be posted on the YouTube video hosting platform.  The event will be broadcasted online with simultaneous translation into Russian, Norwegian and English. 

The conference will feature screenings of films about the history of Arctic exploration and the Great Patriotic War, as well as meetings with the filmmakers.
