On September 10, the information, cultural and educational center for the visually impaired residents of the Kola Peninsula celebrated its 55th anniversary. Murmansk State Regional Special Library for the Blind and Visually Impaired is a unique institution that opens a window onto a large world for many residents of the Murmansk region. Today the number of readers of the library reaches 1,700 people.
The Murmansk State Regional Special Library for the Blind and Visually Impaired is a long-standing partner of the Murmansk Regional Branch of the Russian Geographical Society. Several library staff, including Director Natalia Kireeva, are members of the Russian Geographical Society.
The MRB RGS began to cooperate with the Library for the blind and visually impaired in 2019 as part of a Presidential grant dedicated to the creation of tactile models of monuments of the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945.
Moreover, the Library also hosts the “Geographical Dictation” every year, and together with the MRB RGS organizes unique excursions to the places of military glory of the Murmansk region for blind and visually impaired people.
The Murmansk Regional Branch of the Russian Geographical Society congratulates the Murmansk Regional Special Library for the Blind and Visually Impaired on the anniversary! We wish the Library management and staff good luck in all their endeavors, even more devoted and enthusiastic readers, as well as success in activities aimed at the development of our region and the creation of a barrier-free environment for the visually impaired.
