The presentation of the book "On Franz Josef Land. Based on the data of the 1985 historical expedition" took place at the local history section.
The book was published in 2021 on the initiative of the Murmansk Regional Branch of the Russian Geographical Society with the financial support of the Norilsk Nickel. It contains valuable, previously unpublished materials about the history of the study and development of the archipelago, essays of the expedition participants.
The presentation was attended by the co-author of the book, deputy head of the 1985 expedition, member of the Council of the Murmansk Regional Branch of the Russian Geographical Society Rostislav Gaidovsky, Chairman of the Murmansk Regional Branch of the Russian Geographical Society Denis Moiseev, member of the Council of the Murmansk Regional Branch of the Russian Geographical Society, adviser to the governor of the Murmansk region Sergey Goncharov. They told the audience about the expedition of 1985, Franz Josef Land, and about the creation of the book. The audience also had a chance to watch a movie about the historical expedition of 1985.
During the Murmansk Book Fair, the results of the regional Book of the Year contest were also announced. After that, the award ceremony took place. The Book of the Year contest was held in the Murmansk Region for the first time, a total of 58 publications were submitted to the competition. The books were evaluated by a competent jury, including specialists in archival, museum, library science, scientists, publishers, prominent figures of culture and art.
The book "On Franz Josef Land. Based on the data of the 1985 historical expedition" along with another book was shortlisted in the "Best design" nomination.
The book "The beginning of a long journey. Valerian Lyakhnitsky and Murmansk Commercial Sea Port” won in the main nomination and became the Book of the Year. This award went to the author and publisher, member of the Murmansk Regional RGS Branch Alexander Glukhov. Congratulations to Alexander Borisovich on a well-deserved award!
