“Night of Geography in the Arctic – 2022” became one of the best venues of the educational campaign

This June, the Murmansk Regional Branch of the RGS, together with military personnel of units 12 of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Defense (GU MO), the Northern Fleet and the Pasvik Nature Reserve, organized a platform for the educational campaign of the RGS “Night of Geography” on the embankment and in the building of the Murmansk Marine Station. A large-scale event with a diverse program was prepared. Modern tents were set up on the shore of the Kola Bay near the Marine Station. Inside them, visitors could watch films and enjoy photographs of the Russian Geographical Society, as well as listen to lectures of the expedition participants. Read more about the event here.

The event received an extremely positive response from visitors and wide media coverage. A year later, the organizers plan to hold an even larger “Night of Geography in the Arctic - 2023".  

In July, the Organizing Committee of the international educational campaign of the Russian Geographical Society "Night of Geography" announced the results of the competition for the best venue of the 2022 campaign.

There were five winners:

  • Central Naval Museum, St. Petersburg.
  • Murmansk Regional Branch of the Russian Geographical Society.
  • Youth Club of the RGS Tourism Center "Gornostay", Sverdlovsk region.
  • Derbent Museum-Reserve, Republic of Dagestan.
  • The Center for the Development of Youth Initiatives of the Donetsk People's Republic.

The Murmansk Regional Branch of the Russian Geographical Society became on of the five winners among more than 50 vivid and detailed reports on the events of the “Night of Geography”. The winners received certificates "The best "Night of Geography” venue and sets of memorable gifts with the symbols of the Russian Geographical Society. The MRB RGS will definitely use these gifts when organizing the “Night of Geography” next year.
