The polar journalism legend Vasily Belousov celebrates his 85th birthday

Vasily Belousov - journalist, Director of the Murmansk branch of St. Petersburg Regional Center of TASS since 1977, member of the Union of Journalists since 1963, Honorary Citizen of the Murmansk region (2008), Honored Worker of Culture of the Russian Federation (1996), holder of the Orders "Badge of Honor" (1971) and Friendship (2003), multiple winner of All-Union and All-Russian creative competitions. He is rightfully called a legend of polar journalism.

Vasily Belousov was born on March 22, 1937 in the village of Kurya, Sokolsky district, Vologda region. He graduated from the Sokolsky Pulp and Paper College (1955), the Department of Press workers of the Higher School of Economics under the Central Committee of the CPSU (1967). He moved to Murmansk in1956 and started working as an electrical technician, then he became an engineer of the Murmansk fish processing plant. He began working for newspapers in 1957. Since 1961 he started working in the regional newspaper "Polar Truth" as a literary employee, since 1967 he became head of the Department of Industry, Construction and Transport. He began working at TASS as a correspondent for the Murmansk region in 1977.

He is an author of 14 documentary books devoted mainly to the formation and development of the largest industrial enterprises of the region, their workers, the promotion of advanced labor methods ("Feeling a comrade's support", "Khibiny millions”, "Kovdor miracle", "Lights over the tundra", "Murmansk described by TASS”, "Authorized to tell", etc.).

Vasily Belousov has worked in journalism for 60 years and still continues his activities. Last December, he presented his new book "Journey into the Past" – a memoir describing his journalistic activities, illustrated with photographs from the author's personal archive.
