The social campaign "Geography for Children" was held in Murmansk

On September 21, representatives of the Murmansk Regional Branch of the Russian Geographical Society organized an event within the framework of the All-Russian campaign of the Russian Geographical Society "Geography for Children".

The social campaign "Geography for Children" is conducted by the Russian Geographical Society in organizations for orphans and children left without parental care in the constituent entities of the Russian Federation.

The purpose of the campaign is to popularize geography, preserve the historical and cultural heritage of Russia, carry out environmental and research activities, and engage children with environmental friendliness.

The event at the Murmansk Center for Assistance to Children Left without Parental Care "Rovesnik" opened with a welcoming speech by the Chairman of the MRB RGS Denis Moiseev. He noted how important this campaign was both for the whole of Russia and for him personally.

Denis Moiseev told the participants of the event about the scientific research expedition to the islands of the Novaya Zemlya archipelago on the icebreaker Ilya Muromets conducted from July 27 to August 15, 2022. Representatives of the RGS, the Northern Fleet and the 12 Main Directorate of the Russian Defense Ministry took part in the expedition. 

Representatives of the Murmansk Regional Branch of the Russian Geographical Society brought with them one of the many finds of the expedition: a walrus skull.

As part of the event, the children took part in a geographical quiz to find out how well they know their country. The kids did an excellent job solving it. After the quiz, the MRB RGS representatives told about the expedition to the Sredny and Rybachy Peninsulas and showed a film about it

After the event, the Russian Geographical Society representatives presented the children with memorable gifts. Among them were bags, T-shirts and stationery with the symbols of the Russian Geographical Society, as well as books about famous travelers and their discoveries and educational geographical games.
