Cadets of Murmansk Branch of the Nakhimov Naval School won the previous season of the Hydrography Championship “Notes of a young hydrographer" and wanted to try their hand again. The event is aimed at popularizing hydrographic knowledge and its use in human life. It introduces the activities and history of the hydrographic service of Russia, develops analytical skills, teaches how to generalize and interprete geographical information and presente it in various forms.
It was decided to dedicate the IVth Interregional Hydrography Championship among students of educational organizations to the 225th anniversary of Fyodor Litke. The event was supported by the Murmansk Regional Center for Support of Youth and Volunteer Initiatives.
All the winners were awarded during the Geographical Dictation, but a cadet of the Kronstadt Naval Cadet Military Corps performed an especially outstanding work. The Organizing Committee decided to request the management of the Military Corps to hold a solemn award ceremony. After the New Year holidays, there was a parade. Captain of the 1st rank Nikolai Dovbeshko, the head of the Kronstadt Corps, handed the Winner's Cup to cadet Vladimir Nikanorov.
Vladimir became so interested in the history of hydrography that he began to study the activities of an outstanding hydrographer Gavriil Sarychev.
Vladimir co-created a quiz dedicated to his 260th anniversary and called it "The first and only General Hydrographer of Russia". The anniversary V-th interregional Hydrography Championship "Notes of a young hydrographer", which starts in 2023, is also dedicated to this date.
