"Krasin" is an Arctic icebreaker of the Russian and Soviet fleets, the world's oldest Arctic linear icebreaker in operating condition. "Krasin" had been operating in the seas for 74 years and is now a museum ship. For many years, the icebreaker had ensured ship routing and functioning of scientific expeditions. During the Great Patriotic War “Krasin” participated in the PQ-15 convoy. For the heroic rescue of the crew of the airship “Italia”, as well as for helping the German passenger ship “Monte Cervantes”, the icebreaker was awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labor. Since 2004, the icebreaker "Krasin" has been a branch of the Museum of the World Ocean.

On March 31, 2022, the icebreaker "Krasin" hosted a solemn event dedicated to the 105th anniversary of the raising of the Russian Navy ensign on board.

Gaidovsky, honorary president of the “Polar Convoy” Yu.E. Alexandrov made welcoming remarks, the press service of the icebreaker-museum “Krasin" reports.

Rostislav Gaidovsky is a legendary Arctic captain and polar explorer, member of the MRB RGS Council, holder of the Order of the Red Star and the Order of the Badge of Honor noted in his speech:

“This icebreaker has been our home for a long time. During this time, "Krasin" went through another stage, little known to anyone. The icebreaker was then used for geological purposes, it was rather strange and very difficult for us to rearrange it all according to this new purpose. It was supposed to stay near the islands of the Arctic Ocean not only as a vessel, but also as a base for geologists, and to provide deep drilling. We went through all this, in our own, easy and earnest way, typical for all the Murmansk residents.”

After the celebration, the exhibition “105 years in the service of the Fatherland” was opened on the icebreaker. It shows the main stages of the legendary icebreaker's fate – the history of its construction, its work both as a rescue, military and research vessel, and as an icebreaker museum. The exhibition presents authentic items from the museum's collections – ship equipment and tools, personal belongings, books, household items, historical photographs of the ship and crew members.

The exhibition will be open to visitors until January 30, 2023.
