20 Thousand Kilometers On The Route Altai - Mongolia - Baikal

The automotive expedition of the Novorossiysk local branch of the Krasnodar regional branch of the Russian Geographical Society has completed.

The Kuban autotravel was continuing more than a month. The members of the Novorossiysk branch started under the leadership of Ivan Lepekhin in late May from the Krasnodar Territory. During the expedition, the group traveled more than 20 thousand kilometers, 1600 of which fell on a zone of complete off-road.

“An important role in the journey is played by the experience of the leader. Ivan Anatolyevich Lepekhin is an experienced off-roader user, photographer and active participant in expeditions of the Russian Geographical Society, including such large and complex projects as Altai-2016, Starry Nights of the Caucasus-2017, and others", - chairman of the Novorossiysk local branch of the Krasnodar regional branch of the Russian Geographical Society Yevgenia Kambarova told.
In Altai, they crossed the Oroktoysky Pass from the Chemalsky Tract to Ongudai, as well as the Katu-Yaryk Pass leading to the magical valley of Chulyshman.

"The Mongolian part of the expedition, of course, was the most intense. The Gobi desert, which we crossed from west to east, became its pearl. The visit to Hermen Tsav, the hermit's canyon, was the most impressive. Certainly one of the most beautiful places of the Gobi desert with sheer cliffs from red sandstone ", - the travelers told.

In addition, in Mongolia, the group of autotourists did not miss the opportunity to visit the ancient capital - Karakorum, the Hongoryn-els, which is also known as "singing sands", and Lake Hubsugul. And the Baikal part of the route passed through Olkhon Island and the southern shore of the deepest lake in the world.

The data, photo and video materials collected by the participants of the trip during the expedition are going to be presented in the framework of the lecture hall of the Krasnodar Regional Branch of the Russian Geographical Society.
