Historical – Geographic Landmarks of the Northern Part of European Russia

Nomination: Expeditions and Trips

Goal: To develop recommendations for preservation of geocomplexes and cultural landmarks of the north European region of Russia and encourage tourism in the area.

Objectives:

  • Conduct a historical and geographic expedition with the aim to collect necessary data.
  • Research ecological aspects of the isles and coastline geocomplexes.
  • Develop recommendation for preservation of archeological and historical cultural monuments and landmarks.
  • Develop reference materials and documentary videos about the nature of the region. Publish a comprehensive atlas “Lake Onezhskoye: Geography, Ecology, Culture and Tourism.”
  • Encourage tourism in the region.

Project Coordinating Entities: 

Karelian Branch of the Russian Geographical Society, Sea Club “Polar Odyssey”, Karelian State Pedagogical Academy, and Northern Water Problems Institute opened with Karelian Research Centre of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
