Title: Series of Documentary Videos: “The Turks”
Goal: To demonstrate how the history of Russia and the Commonwealth was influenced by migration and expansion of the Turkic peoples; educate the public about culture of the Turkic peoples.
Objectives:
- Produce a series of documentary videos about the Turkic peoples.
- Involve historians, writers, philologists, and ethnographers in collaboration over the series of documentaries.
- Prepare the series for broadcast on television channels «Mir», «Mir+3», and «Moya Planeta»
Description of the project: In the course of the project seven documentaries will be made, each consisting of two fifty-two minute episodes. These documentaries will depict history and culture of the Turkic peoples in Russia and Eurasia. Many of the documentaries will be based on the manuscripts of Lev Gumilev.
Urgency of the Issue: One of the most expansive ethnographic processes in Eurasia is the close neighbor-like coexistence of two massive ethnic groups – Slavs and Turks. Such close proximity and comingling has a significant effect on the Russian federal structure, and its policy in relation to its neighboring states of Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan, and Azerbaijan. This symbiosis has been one of the main prerequisites for civil peace and political stability in contemporary Russia and Eurasia. The vast knowledge of the ethnic groups about each other’s cultures makes this symbiosis possible.
Project Deadline: Seven documentaries will be completed in 2010.
Project Executive Entity: Interstate Television and Radio Broadcasting Company “Mir,” CJSC.
Project Leader: Tatyana Gennadyevna Dragileva – Senior Editor of “Mir.”
