The Chairman of the Jury of the Award of the Russian Geographical Society, The President of the Russian Geographical Society, Sergey Shoygu
The receipt of applications for the Award of the Russian Geographical Society in the year of 2016 goes on. The bidding campaign started the 1st of July, and will last till the 30th of September, 2016. The applications from 28 regions of our country, and from abroad as well have been sent to the present moment. We would like to recall that any citizen and organization of any country of the world may qualify for the Award, on condition, that their projects are dedicated to Russia.
One of the brightest initiatives, presented to the jury of the Award, has been received from the Mediterranean. This is about restoration of the Russian Orthodox chapel on the one of the islands, and writing a book about its history. The initiators of the project are the citizens of Russia, with the support of the head of state, where the chapel is located, and of the National Agency of historical heritage.
The Award of the Russian Geographical Society has been founded to promote activities of the Society and increasing interest in the projects in the field of national geography, ecology, preservation of natural and historical and cultural heritage of our country, and of eographical science and education as well.
The Award has an international status and is being handed in once in two years. It was for the first time awarded in 2014.

The competitive applications for the Award in 2016 are being regarded in the five following nominations:
- «Expeditions»;
- «Scientific research»;
- «Education and awareness»;
- «Promotion of natural, historical and cultural heritage of Russia»;
- «Public acceptance».

We are expecting for the bright results of the research, outstanding expedition projects, innovative ideas in the field of education and awareness, discovering the world of science and geography, editions, allowing to expand the horizons of the usual, and other projects, dedicated to the geography, ecology, ethnography, history and culture of Russia as well.

The finalists of the Award are being determined by the jury, headed by the President of the Russian Geographical Society Sergey Shoygu. The vice-presidents of the Russian Geographical Society Arthur Chilingarov and Nikolay Kasimov, and other famous scientists, public figures, representatives of culture and art are being the members of jury as well.
The awarding ceremony will take place in the end of the year. The time and date of the ceremony will be announced later.

In 2014 the laureates of the Award were guerdoned by the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Russian Geographical Society, the President of Russia Vladimir Putin, the President of the Russian Geographical Society, the Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation Sergey Shoygu. There were cosmonauts Aleksey Leonov and Victor Savinykh, the producers Emir Kusturica and Nikita Mikhalkov, the members of the Board of Trustees of the Russian Geographical Society Andrey Bokharev, Viktor Vekselberg, Magomed Magomedov, Petr Aven, Gennadiy Timchenko and other famous people among the honored guests of the ceremony.
