About the Medal: 

The Przewalski Gold Medal is awarded for new geographical discoveries in desert and mountain regions, for ground study of extensive and poorly studied areas important for geography, for field studies of peoples of Russia and other countries, as well as for scholarly proceedings on cartography, geodesy, mathematical geography and geomorphology on topical issues of science. 

Instituted: August 29, 1946 

Adjudged for: Was presented every other year for proceedings in cartography, geodesy, mathematical geography, geomorphology, military geography; important scientific results of traveling to poorly studied or completely unknown terrain.
